On the night of April 24, 2017, at Praça do Giraldo in Évora, during the commemoration of the 43rd anniversary of the 25th of April—the revolution that brought democracy to Portugal—the city paid a heartfelt posthumous tribute to one of its essential cultural figures: master Joaquim Soares.

An unwavering defender of Cante Alentejano, recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, Joaquim Soares dedicated his life to preserving and promoting this unique musical expression. The tribute, which united tradition and technological innovation, celebrated the legacy of a man who fought so that the soul of Alentejo would never fall silent.
